Dance

In the video Dance, a young boy explores the material quality of horsehair loose and bound. The formal aspects of the material guide his inquisitive nature from animal imitations to choreographed movements that evolve into a metaphor for aggression. He spins, he whips, he marches, he gathers, he sweeps, he becomes a man with a mustache, he hides, and he shoots. The song Hammouda by Hassan Erraji and Arabesque with Sabra adds a feeling of urgency and implies a trapped repetitiveness. The boy in the end exposes the sky blue setting as a backdrop and we are left only with props.
